Date of Defense 2006-02-24 Availability unrestricted Abstract Previous research examining the effect of study strategies on GPA has relied on general interviews and questionnaires. I attempt to validate and extend previous findings by applying methods originally developed for researching the acquisition of expert performance in order to identify practice activities that distinguish student achievement at all levels of academic success. Sixty upper-level Bioscience students (22 high-, 17 average- and 21 low-achieving) completed interviews and three week-long periods of daily diaries. The effects of study strategies on student achievement were compared across assessment instruments. The results of the current study reveal that a more online method of measuring strategies is superior to other methods in identifying differences between high-, average- and low-achieving students across time periods.Files
