Date of Defense 2004-04-26 Availability unrestricted Abstract Excessive reassurance-seeking, which has been associated with depression in many studies, can be defined as the relatively stable tendency to seek assurance perseveratively from others. It was predicted that although depression has been associated with left frontal EEG hypoactivity, reassurance-seekers may possess a unique diathesis that is more likely to be associated with increased left frontal activity. Data were collected from 83 undergraduate volunteers. EEG asymmetry scores were averaged over two measurement occasions at least three weeks apart. Contrary to prediction, results from Minnix, Kline, Blackhart, Pettit, & Joiner (in press) were not replicated in this college sample, though the expected relation between depressive symptomatology and reassurance-seeking was found. Implications and limitations were discussed.Files
