Date of Defense 2010-04-21 Availability unrestricted Abstract Memory performance benefits from reinstatement of the initial encoding context. When this reinstatement depends upon self-initiated processes, some people may be more likely to reinstate than others. The likelihood of engaging in self-initiated constrained retrieval may vary by degree of cognitive impulsivity. It may also vary according to instruction. Three experiments are presented that examine controlled retrieval processing among younger adults. Constrained retrieval may be an effortful strategy involving deliberate reflection.Files
