Date of Defense 2010-07-02 Availability restricted Abstract In this study, a general framework for understanding sanctions success with an emphasis on target characteristics has been employed. The hypotheses presented in this study identify target compliance through the effect of globalization on target country domestic political structure. Cultural globalization shed light on the analysis of target state behavior in terms of its effect on target’s resolve in sanctions bargaining. In addition, cultural globalization is used as an indicator of public preferences and substitute of regime type. Public effect on sanctions success, then, analyzed through public perception of sanctions. Empirical results of the models presented in this study supported the hypotheses on the relationship between sanctions success and cultural globalization, and the effect of cultural globalization on some correlates of sanctions success.Files
