Abstract

Two experiments were performed. The first used a 135 MeV beam of sulfer-32 on a nickle-58 target to study niobium-87 using the Gammasphere and the Microball. The level and decay scheme of niobium-87 was substantially enhanced, and the lifetimes of may levels were measured. These experimental results were compared to calculations using a cranked Nilsson Strutinsky approach.

The second experiment used a 21.4 MeV beam of carbon-14 on a berilium-10 target to study fluorine-22. This experiment used a custom silicon surface barrier detector and FSU's HPGe gamma-ray detectors to detect the evaporated charged particles and gamma rays from the reaction. Again, the level scheme was substantially enhanced, but this time the results were compared to calculations using the shell model.
